Beloved Community: A Church Labels Can’t Contain

Labels can tell you everything and nothing at the same time. In this message from Romans 12:9–22, Leviticus 19:33–34, and Deuteronomy 10:17–19, Jason continues the Beloved Community series by exploring what it means to be a church that refuses to let the labels the world assigns to people determine who belongs. Drawing on Paul’s expansion of the Torah’s welcome ethic, from the legal category of the resident alien all the way to the Greek word xenos, the genuinely other, Jason calls the church to a love without hypocrisy that crosses every boundary culture insists on drawing. Not a community of sameness, but one whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
